Shopping Cart is emptied after user adds item

Symptoms
On sites utilizing multiple servers: When a user tries to add an item to the shopping cart, the cart is emptied whether cart has items or is already empty.

Cause
The machine keys are different on each server.

Solution
Must set identical machine keys across all servers.
