Google Checkout Account has 'PKIX path building failed' errors in the Integration section

Symptoms

An error is encountered when attempting to access your server at

https://www.yourstore.com/gcCallback.aspx -- the error is:

javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:

sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed:

sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Cause

This is caused by using an SSL certificate that Google does not accept.

Solution

Use an SSL certificate from one of the Certificate Authorities that Google accepts, listed at http://checkout.google.com/support/sell/bin/answer.py?answer=57856
